Famed bullpen cop Steve Horgan retires from Boston Police

Boston Police officer Steve Horgan, the Fenway Park bullpen cop who became an overnight sensation during the Red Sox' 2013 World Series title run with his emphatic celebrations, has officially retired after 33 years on the force.

It was revealed back in September that Horgan would be retiring this January, giving him one last go-around in the bullpen as the Red Sox won their ninth World Series title in franchise history. He told the Boston Globe at the time he would "miss the whole atmosphere of Fenway Park. It’s been fun."

Horgan became an instant sensation during Game 2 of the 2013 American League Championship Series, when his double-fisted reaction to David Ortiz's home run into the Sox' bullpen coincided with Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter's flip over the bullpen wall, creating a once-in-a-lifetime symmetrical shot that remains one of the most iconic photos in Red Sox lore:

Fans galvanized by Horgan's sudden fame, the Red Sox went on to win the World Series, beating the Cardinals in six games.

Back in September, Horgan told WCVB-TV he was hoping to pursue his love of cooking, perhaps even on TV.
