We probably won't see Chris Sale again this season, Rick Porcello and Nathan Eovaldi are underperforming, so it's safe to say the Red Sox need pitching just to make to the end of the regular season.
On Saturday, they added a veteran presence in Jhoulys Chacin by signing him to a minor-league deal, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.
Chacin was released by the Brewers on Monday and threw a bullpen session in front of the Red Sox before signing with them.
The 31-year-old righty hasn't put up spectacular numbers this season. Over 88.2 innings, he has a 5.79 ERA and it's not exactly the best endorsement to get released by a Brewers team in need of pitching.
Overall, the Sox will most likely get a guy who can eat innings and possibly give the lineup a decent chance to win a few games down the stretch. Boston's playoff hopes have all but vanished thanks to its pitching, so it's a bit too late to paint Chacin as a savior.
