It appears the New York Yankees are considering all options this offseason -- including trading their supposed catcher of the future.
The Yankees have had talks with the Miami Marlins about including Gary Sanchez in a trade for J.T. Realmuto, Fancred's Jon Heyman reported late Thursday. A deal doesn't seem imminent, though, as Heyman reports New York has "resisted offering other top pieces" in a Sanchez-led package to Miami, which is hoping for a "major" return.
Sanchez has immense raw talent but battled injuries and inconsistency last season, hitting just .186 while playing in 89 games. Realmuto, meanwhile, has emerged as one of the best-hitting catchers in baseball and recorded career highs in home runs (21) and RBIs (74) last season while hitting .277.
The Yankees reportedly still hold the 25-year-old Sanchez in high regard, but Realmuto would give them better defense behind the plate while sacrificing a small amount of power for more offensive consistency.
The Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers also have shown interest in Realmuto, per Heyman, who noted the Boston Red Sox could be a potential landing spot, as well.

Realmuto's old Double-A coach, Andy Barkett, now is Boston's assistant hitting coach, which could count for something, although the Red Sox's thin farm system may prevent them from making a legitimate offer.
