The Boston Red Sox made a minor transaction ahead of Game 162 on Wednesday.

Right-hander Easton McGee was claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays, the team announced. The Red Sox hosted the Rays for the 2022 season finale.

McGee, 24, was designated for assignment by the Rays on Monday. He made his MLB debut on Sunday vs. the Houston Astros, allowing one unearned run on four hits with one strikeout over three innings of relief.

Before his recent promotion to the majors, McGee spent all of the 2022 season with the Rays' Triple-A affiliate, the Durham Bulls. In 27 appearances (22 starts), he posted a 5.43 ERA with 82 strikeouts and 20 walks in 107 2/3 innings pitched.

With the 2022 campaign coming to an end, the question is whether McGee will stick on the roster for 2023. Boston undoubtedly should be looking to overhaul the bullpen during the offseason.
