Who's ready for some sudden-death baseball?
That's essentially what will take place at Fenway Park on Thursday afternoon, as the Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals will resume their Aug. 7 game that was suspended due to rain in the top of the 10th inning.
At 1:05 p.m. ET, the game begins right where it left off back on Aug. 7: nobody on, nobody out and a 2-1 count to Royals batter Meibrys Viloria in a 4-4 game.
A few notes on the quirky contest, which could end in a matter of minutes if the Red Sox score in the bottom of the 10th inning:
-- Josh Taylor was pitching to Viloria on Aug. 7, but the Sox obviously can replace him with a new pitcher to "start" the suspended game. They can't pitch Eduardo Rodriguez, Darwinzon Hernandez, Nathan Eovaldi or Brandon Workman, though, as those hurlers appeared in the Aug. 7 game.
-- No National Anthem will be played, and no member of the Kansas City media is covering the game, according to WEEI's Rob Bradford.
-- The Red Sox are making admission free for kids 18 years old or younger, and general admission is just $5.
