Eric Hosmer reportedly has found a new home in free agency.
The veteran first baseman has agreed to sign with the Chicago Cubs, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers. He was designated for assignment by the Boston Red Sox on Dec. 16 and released six days later.

Hosmer, 33, joined the Red Sox before the 2022 MLB trade deadline. He hit .272 with eight home runs and 40 RBI in 90 games for the San Diego Padres prior to the deal. With Boston, he was limited to only 14 games due to injury and hit .244.
The Cubs will only need to pay Hosmer the league minimum while he's on the active roster. The Padres are on the hook for the former All-Star's $13 million salary over each of the next three seasons.
With Hosmer out of the picture, prized prospect Triston Casas projects to be the Red Sox' Opening Day starter at first base.
