Brown wouldn't have reached the 40-point mark if the Celtics bench didn't surrender most of the team's huge lead and let the Lakers go on a 21-2 run in the fourth quarter.
The All-Star guard re-entered the game with the Celtics leading 115-107 at the 1:50 mark of the fourth quarter. Two baskets later, he had 40 points as the Celtics closed a 121-113 victory.
