Friday was an unforgettable day for Carsen Edwards as the Boston Celtics rookie had his No. 3 Atascocita High School jersey retired.
The C's second-round pick received a hero's welcome as he returned home to Texas to "MVP" chants and received his framed Atascocita, Purdue, and Celtics jerseys as a gift.

Edwards was taken aback by the love he received in his hometown.
“I feel it’s unreal in a way,” Edwards said, per Mark Berman of FOX 26. “At the time when I was here, I couldn’t picture something like this. This is such a huge accomplishment. To be able to be here and get the accomplishment and being noticed by the people you grew up with and the people around the community, it means a lot more.
“That’s something that means a lot to me — seeing my jersey on the wall. There are people that are in my same position, (and) being able to believe and see someone like (me) is important (and) gives them hope. I believe that the culture that was built when I was here my freshman year and coach Martinez was here his first year. He just … kind of established us as a team and made us known for basketball around here, so it’s cool.”
Edwards emerged as a fan favorite during Celtics Summer League alongside fellow rookies Tacko Fall, Grant Williams, and Tremont Waters. The 6-foot-1 sharpshooter already landed a shoe deal with Adidas, so the hype certainly is real heading into the 2019 campaign.
