Jaylen Brown says last season ‘wasn't as bad as we probably made it out to be'

For a Celtics team as talented and well-rounded as the 2018-19 squad was to go 49-33 and get manhandled in the second round by the Bucks, a lot had to go wrong over the course of nine months.

We sort of have an idea of what went wrong. There were too many mouths to feed, individual goals got in the way of team success and Kyrie Irving did a bad job of leading the team in th right direction when things started to go really wrong.

And then after the season ended, Irving and Al Horford left for different cities, leaving the Celtics to dip into their contingency plans to build a roster good enough to compete in the East.

Jaylen Brown, a player who struggled early last season but found some consistency when he was moved to the bench, doesn't think the team's problems were as serious as everyone thought.

"A lot of stuff went wrong, I think it wasn’t as bad as we probably made it out to be," Brown said.

Boston did a pretty good job re-tooling the roster by drafting capable rookies and signing Kemba Walker and Enes Kanter in free agency. While they won't be anyone's pick for the NBA championship, there's a really good chance they play a brand of basketball they can be proud of again.

"I think no expectations, no clickbait, no media interferences, let’s just come out and play, and I think everybody will appreciate that," he said.
