BOSTON -- When Anthony Davis’ camp made it known to the world that he wanted out of New Orleans, the Boston Celtics immediately became one of the favorites to land him despite not being able to make a deal for him officially until July 1.
And the one Celtics player most anticipate will have to be included in such a blockbuster deal, is Jayson Tatum.
I asked the second-year forward how he’s handling the trade rumors surrounding Davis which if a deal is reached, would likely have to include him.
“My job is to control what I can control,” Tatum said. “I can’t control what happens, so I focus on today and just play the game and see what happens.”
And as much as Tatum wants to remain with the Celtics and continue to grow and compete for a championship, the fact that he’s likely the primary target of the Pelicans if they reach a deal with the Celtics speaks to how he’s viewed in NBA circles.
“It’s good to be wanted,” he said. “I guess you can say that. But that’s it; I’m not a free agent. I can control what I can control.”
