NBA odds: Celtics' win total for next season set higher than you might expect

A look back at the night the Celtics draft Jayson Tatum in 2017.

The Boston Celtics were two wins away from reaching the 2020 NBA Finals, and oddsmakers expect the C's to carry that momentum into the upcoming season.

The 2020-21 win totals have been released, and the Celtics are No. 4 on the list. The only teams that oddsmakers expect to win more games than the C's next season are the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers and defending champion Los Angeles Lakers.

New Tatum workout video will excite Celtics fans

The Celtics could definitely hit the over on 45.5 wins. They had 48 victories in 72 games last season -- one that was interrupted in March because of the pandemic.

You could also make a case that Boston is better now that it was last season.

The C's added much-needed shooting in the 2020 NBA Draft by selecting Aaron Nesmith and Payton Pritchard in the first round. They upgraded at center by signing Tristan Thompson and bolstered their depth at point guard with the addition of Jeff Teague in free agency. Losing Gordon Hayward is a bit of a setback, but one that can be overcome by young players such as Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Romeo Langford and others continuing to improve.

Healthy Isaiah Thomas ready to prove himself

Even after losing Hayward, oddsmakers still give the Celtics the fifth-best odds to win the 2021 title.

The regular season is scheduled to begin Dec. 22.
