Reports: Celtics offered 4 first-rounders for Paul George in February, 3 on draft night

The Celtics made several attempts to acquire Paul George from the Indiana Pacers, offering four first-round picks at the February trade deadline and three first rounders on draft night, according to multiple reports.

George was traded late Friday to the Oklahoma City Thunder for guard Victor Oladipo and power forward Domantas Sabonis - and no picks - a return considered by many NBA observers to be significantly less than what the Celtics had offered.

Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe reported that the Celtics package for George in February included the 2017 first-round Brooklyn pick, which wound up being the No. 1 pick in the draft, and three other first-round choices

On draft night, according to Himmelsbach, Boston offered Indiana three starting players and two first-round picks, although the offer did not include the pick the Celtics will receive from the Nets next year or the future first-round pick they received when they traded the top pick this year to the 76ers.

Jeff Goodman of ESPN reported similar Celtics offers but said it was three first-rounders on draft night.

Ultimately, the Celtics offer evolved into three first-round picks (but not the future Nets or Lakers/Kings picks) and two Celtics starters. It wasn't enough and the C's have now turned their attention to free agent forward Gordon Hayward, who will meet with them in Boston on Monday.
