Team USA Celtics players wear numbers of past Boston greats

If you weren't aware already, there aren't many jersey number options for current Celtics players. There are 22 numbers hanging in the rafters that belonged to Celtic legends, and most of them are pretty good choices for incoming players.

Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart are all on Team USA's training camp roster for the FIBA World Cup, and they each selected a different number to wear than what they'll sport at TD Garden this fall. Not only that, but two of the players picked numbers belonging to former Celtics greats.

Walker went with No. 26 and Smart went with No. 40, which aren't that noteworthy unless you're huge fans of Phil Pressey and Dino Radja.

Tatum however, picked No. 34, which every Celtics fan can attribute that to future Hall of Famer Paul Pierce. Tatum has said he wants to be the next Paul Pierce so I wonder if this choice is an ode to a Celtics mentor of his.

Brown also chose the number of a Celtics legend. In fact, it was Larry Legend himself. Larry Bird wore No. 33 for his entire Hall of Fame career with the Celtics, where he won three championships and three MVP awards, defining the best era of Celtics basketball since Bill Russell.
