The Washington Redskins still haven't announced their starting quarterback for Sunday's Week 5 home game against the New England Patriots.
Dwayne Haskins is one of the best options for Washington, but his performance in Week 4 was far from impressive. The rookie quarterback made his NFL debut Sunday during the Redskins' 24-3 loss to the New York Giants. He struggled throughout the afternoon, completing just nine of 17 pass attempts for 107 yards and three interceptions.
Like many young quarterbacks, Haskins has looked at Patriots quarterback Tom Brady as a role model at the position. Haskins even watched "Tom vs. Time" while at Ohio State to see learn a few valuable tips from the six-time Super Bowl champion.
"I watched 'Tom vs. Time' going into my last year of college, and I used that as far as preparing for my last year (at Ohio State)," Haskins told reporters Wednesday, via Lake Lewis Jr. "Just how he prepared his body and the mental makeup, what he does with his receivers in his off time. When you look at him, that's what a quarterback is supposed to look like. I'm looking forward to being on the same field with him Sunday. Looking forward to meeting him."
The Patriots have the best defense in the NFL, at least from a statistical standpoint, entering Week 5. It's a very tough matchup for Haskins, especially when you consider Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has won 18 consecutive games against first- and second-year quarterbacks.
Redskins quarterback Jay Gruden admitted Wednesday he doesn't have a plan regarding his QB situation for Sunday's game. In addition to Haskins, two veteran quarterbacks are options to start for Washington -- Case Keenum is battling an injury and Colt McCoy is returning from one.
