The AFC East just got a little easier for the New England Patriots.
New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith will be out for six to 10 weeks with a broken jaw that’ll require surgery after being sucker punched in the face during an altercation in the locker room.
According to Jets head coach Todd Bowles, second-year linebacker Ikemefuna Enemkpali “cold cocked, sucker punched” Smith in the jaw. Enemkpali was immediately released by the team after logging three career tackles, and of course one injured quarterback.
The Jets will likely now lean on veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, which means the Patriots could face him in their Week 7 matchup.
