Patriots-Seahawks recap: Pats can't contain Seattle's WRs in OT loss

The Patriots couldn't hold a late lead and suffered their first loss of the 2024 season.

Patriots’ insider Tom E. Curran points out a big disparity between the Patriots and the Seahawks in the passing game as the Patriots fell 23-20 in overtime.

What to Know

  • The Patriots ran for 185 yards (5.1 per carry) and a touchdown, but the passing attack (149 yards on 15 completions) largely struggled.
  • The Patriots had a field goal attempt blocked with 3:52 left in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks forced OT with a field goal on the ensuing drive.
  • Seahawks QB Geno Smith completed 33-of-44 pass attempts for 327 yards and a touchdown.
  • Next up for the Patriots is a Week 3 road game against the rival Jets on Thursday Night Football.

The Patriots had plenty of chances to win Sunday's Week 2 game against the Seahawks, but they didn't make enough winning plays late in the fourth quarter and overtime.

The Seahawks passing attack proved to be the difference. Seattle wideouts DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba combined to tally 22 receptions for 246 yards and a touchdown. New England's secondary had no answers for those two pass-catchers.
