Tom Brady recently appeared in an episode of the Netflix TV series, "Living With Yourself." The cameo was meant to be fun but, unfortunately, was misconstrued as a potential shot at Patriots owner Robert Kraft.
Brady encounters Paul Rudd's character, Miles Elliott, outside of a strip mall containing a spa called Top Happy Spa. In the context of the show, the spa is used as a place where people are cloned into their better selves. But many read it as a dig at Kraft.
Kraft, of course, was charged with soliciting a prostitute during the offseason at Orchids of Asia Day Spa in Jupiter, Fla. But referencing that was never the intention of Brady or the show creators.
In a recent appearance on "The Howard Stern Show", Rudd explained why the creator of "Living With Yourself" reached out to Brady and that the whole cameo had to do with making fun of Brady's seeming perfection.
"Even back when he had four rings or maybe even three, the idea that we would have a clone, and it’s the best version of ourselves, that they just do everything right, that they’re great — Tom Brady is the epitome of that," Rudd said, as transcribed by Kevin Slane of Boston.com. "We sent him these scripts like a year and a half ago or something. And I was so touched. He got the joke of making fun of himself and his perfection, and he was like, ‘Yeah.’"
Still, many misread the cameo, and Rudd felt bad for Brady that many didn't understand its context.

"I had a feeling that I have never ever had in my life, which was: Oh my God, I feel bad for Tom Brady," Rudd said. "This guy was throwing us a bone, he was doing us a favor, and he was kind of making fun of himself and his perfection. And then all of the sudden the Boston media…"
Brady panned the media for the questions he received about the cameo, but that has mostly since blown over. Instead, he is now focused on trying to dispell talk of his impending free agency amid rumors that he may not return to the Patriots in 2020. He recently called any speculation about his future "just hype."
