The Patriots apparently want LeGarrette Blount. He apparently wants to come back.
Now the question is, can they reach agreement on a new contract before the veteran running back becomes a free agent?
The Boston Herald reported Wednesday that Blount and the Pats are in "the infant stages" of talks on a new deal, and that there is "mutual interest" to reach an agreement. Blount, 29, injured his hip in the Pats' win over Houston on Dec. 13 and missed the rest of the season, including playoffs. Prior to being hurt, he had gained 703 yards on 165 carries, a 4.3 yards-per-carry average, and scored six touchdowns.
The Patriots' running game disintegrated after he was sidelined, and -- coincidentally or not -- they lost three of the last five games they played without him.
NFL free agency beings on March 9.
