New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore didn't win Super Bowl LIII MVP, but you certainly can make a case he was the most deserving player for the award.
That's exactly what Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Calais Campbell did on Twitter on Monday. Here's the case he made:
It's a compelling argument.
Gilmore had a fantastic game in the Patriots' 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night, and his interception late in the fourth quarter essentially sealed the franchise's sixth Super Bowl championship.
Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman won Super Bowl LIII MVP with 10 receptions for 141 yards. He's the first wide receiver to win this award in a decade and the second wideout in Patriots history to claim the honor.
Edelman was a deserving winner, but Gilmore certainly wouldn't have been a poor choice, either. The most important thing for the Patriots is they are bringing the Lombardi Trophy back to Foxboro. That's what fans and players will remember the most from Super Bowl LIII.
