The Boston Bruins' magic number to clinch home-ice advantage in the first round of 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs is three points, and they can get very close to that mark by earning a road win over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night.
The Bruins and their likely first-round opponent, the Toronto Maple Leafs, both enter Sunday with four games left in the regular season. Boston has a six-point lead on Toronto, so barring some sort of collapse, the B's and Leafs should begin the playoffs at TD Garden.
Boston hasn't clinched anything yet, though, and the challenge won't get any easier in Detroit.
The Red Wings, despite being in seventh place in the Atlantic Division, are playing very well and have won four games in a row. Detroit won't be lacking confidence against Boston, either, especially when you consider the Red Wings have won the last two meetings with the Bruins.
