Morning Skate: Ex-B's assistant a power-play whisperer for Flames?

Share

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading, while the end of the winter sporting season is well within reach. I’m also really hoping that LeBron James brings into style those suits with the short pants.

*The Calgary Flames believe that they have found a new power-play specialist in newly hired assistant coach Geoff Ward, who is a great guy and a very good hockey coach, and we all remember him well in his time with the Bruins. He was the power-play coach on the 2011 Cup team that went 10-for-98 in the playoffs for what was unquestionably the worst PP ever for a Cup winner, and the Bruins had some real issues with the man-advantage at times in Ward’s tenure. So believing that Ward is a power play whisperer might be a little too much expectation for a very solid assistant coach.

*Five questions for expected No. 1 overall pick, defenseman Rasmus Dahlin, as he gets ready to star at both the NHL scouting combine and draft weekend in Dallas.

*Former Caps goaltender Olie Kolzig talks about what made Braden Holtby’s Game 2 save so spectacularly special.

*The NHL’s stance on concussions, and their impact on players, is beginning to wear thin with many media outlets including the Globe and Mail in this editorial.

*The news that Ryan Callahan is expected to miss five months with shoulder surgery makes his gutsy play during the Stanley Cup playoffs even more impressive.

*Speaking of the suit shorts that James sported before and after Game 1 of the NBA Finals, here’s a fun Aaron Ward story about the time as a rookie he also had to wear “suit shorts.”

*For something completely different: Chris Pratt has finally defended the actions of his Star Lord character in "Infinity War". If you’ve seen the movie, you know what I’m talking about.
